Desert Book List

There is something to be said about books. Words really can transport you anywhere that you wish to go. Its amazing how powerful ink can be. I love it!

This week we journeyed to the heat of the desert while cuddling on the couch with a fan. That’s my favorite way to travel to the desert.

For our week study our main topic was the desert but we specifically read more about snakes and camels. There is a lot of wonderful books out there specifically on deserts but I am glad we talked more about some animal species. My kids love animals but if your kids love bugs or plants you could easily expand your book search to include those topics.

An Eric Carle classic. This snake eats everything at first sight. A fun read but not very educational.

Get out your southern drawl. Your going to need it. I enjoyed reading this book as much as he kids liked listening. I even learned something with this book, something that I thought was a joke but actually true.

Journey Through the DesertJourney through the desert was one of my favorites however it doesn’t have an image on amazon so if you would like to order this book click on the title instead of the picture. The images are great and I love the tidbits that they share about desert animals.

This book has a special place in my heart. I have had this book since my first birthday. Yes, cue the mushy sound effects. My Dad bought me a set of books that told stories from around the world. I have had them since then and they are still in relatively good shape and I love that I can share them with my kids now.

Now back to the book. It is adorable. It compares the camel to a car and why the camel is so useful in the heat of the desert. Cars just can’t compete.

Are your kids ready for an early reader? This is just what your looking for. 12 different types of snakes are pictured with a quick sentence of info.

Babies and their moms. Wonderful book and in the back there is additional information for your eager learners.

No, that’s silly! Do you know why animals have different adaptations? This book is cute and funny. Perfect for helping kids use their imagination to come up with their own hypothesis’s.

Beautiful pictures with not too much text. Too much for toddlers but I try and introduce a little too much just in case my kids surprise me and want more information. A good choice butΒ  just know that you may just end up discussing the pictures.

Maybe I shouldn’t end my post with my least favorite book but I’m going to anyways. I don’t want to misguide you. Desert Habitat would be a great book for kids 7+ that had an interest in the desert and the animals that live there. This book shares alot of great info which would be perfect for diving deeper into this subject. It was very interesting but involved lots of reading.

Now your ready for your own journey! Don’t forget water, my friends!
