Doctrine and Covenant 3 starts us off in heart break but makes for an excellent learning experience about peer pressure and following our impressions. This week I was able to gleam a few extra school lessons from our scripture study and I am so happy with how they are working together.

Martin Harris repeatedly asked Joseph Smith to allow him to take some translated papers to show. Repeatedly the answer was no, until finally the answer was basically, “Sure, see what happens.” Once you read the suggested scripture above you will know the rest of the story. I thought this experience was the perfect opportunity to talk about peer pressure, the importance of establishing good boundaries and trusting the answers you receive from God via the Holy Ghost.

Last week we planted a seed and talked about Christ, this week we are going to talk about how we need to take care of our plant (faith) as a gardener and what tools we can use. I am not going to give you a script to follow but today would be a great day for a family discussion about service, hard work, persistence, the power of love, consistency. You can add some wonderful books to help teach these attributes.
Books
We are the gardeners – Joanna Gaines

Videos
Latter Day Kids – Faith is like Planting a Seed This is the same title as last weeks video but it is different. Kids brains do well with repetition, it wont be over kill for them.
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints – The Will of God God is the gardener and he knows what he wants us to be.
Latter Day Kids – A Story about Serving OthersParable of the Potato Weed Consistent work will keep problems (weeds from taking over)
Ikea – Bullying a Plant It was tricky to find a good video about this that was child appropriate. What we say to ourselves and others is powerful, we can help someone to grow or hurt them but the words we use and how we treat them.
Choose a service activity to do as a family. I suggest brainstorming with your kids because they might think of something wonderful
