This week flew right on by! Now we are diving into Doctrine and Covenants 12-13 and finishing up Joseph Smith History. I am a little extra excited about this week because a few months ago our oldest got baptized, this week is going to be a great review for him and hopefully an opportunity for him to bare his testimony. We are also going to learn about the Aaronic Priesthood and do a little service by spreading some valentines love.

A few weeks ago we learned about harvesting grain and milling it into flour. We were ahead of the plans from The Red Headed Hostess which is fine, we found some other wonderful topics to dive into. If you would like to dive into more resources then follow this link to take you to what we use for this topic, scroll down to Thursdays devotional.
Even though we already covered grain we are were able to find some good things to help us learn about service instead. The Red Headed Hostess shared a super cute story about a simple and kind action between Joseph Smith Jr and Joseph Knight Sr. Since the time lines up just about perfect let’s spend the day making valentines for our loved ones. Often its the small actions that leave an impact on others hearts.
Spend some time today creating valentines for your friends and loved ones. If you want to mail cards then try to get them to the post office today to make sure they get to their destination on time.

Doctrine and Covenants 13 is short and sweet but a heavy hitter. We are introduced to John the Baptist, the Aaronic Priesthood, keys, repentance and baptism. My kids are under 11 so we are going to focus on the basics of the Aaronic Priesthood but if I had older kids we would dive in a little more with responsibilities and how to use the priesthood to bless others lives.

We are so lucky that the February edition of The Friend is featuring baptism. If you have a subscription make sure to put the magazine by your scriptures or you can access it via the website or the gospel library app. Spend some time discussing why baptism is important, how it is properly done (immersion), how Jesus was baptized and how Joseph Smith was baptized. Today would be a wonderful time to talk about how we baptize now and share experiences from your childhood or have your children share about their baptism.
