One thing I have noticed as I put together these guides is how many spiritual topics are covered each week. Maybe I’ve just been missing out during the other Come Follow Me studies but Doctrine and Covenants is packed. This week had so many potential topics to choose from so I really have to narrow it down to what I wanted to focus on for my kids. I hope that the direction I went will be able to help your family too but remember, follow the Holy Ghost and you will know if your family needs to hear a specific message.

Today’s reading is a little bit long so while you read keep little hands busy building with Lincoln Logs, planks, or whatever building toys you have. After you read your building creations will lead right into learning about Log Homes in the 1800’s. We already touched on Log houses when the Whitmer’s were introduced a few weeks ago so we are also going to learn a little about the process of clearing land and how replanting is handled now.

Today we are diving into the first sacrament prayer, the Bread. We are going to focus on what the prayer is talking about, how we can take Christ’s name upon us, why we keep the commandments, how we can remember Jesus and the blessing we receive in return.

We are really focusing on the sacrament a lot this week because I really want our family to understand the importance of taking the sacrament and the blessing that it is to have a priesthood holder in our home. We haven’t attended church in nearly a year but we have been able to take the sacrament every week in our home. It has been a special experience and I want our kids to continue to growing in understanding and faith, especially during uncertain time.
The water is also an important part of the sacrament, this is when I like to ponder about the atonement and let go of my wrong doings and prepare to improve during the next week.

Until this week I always thought that the sacrament prayers were in the Bible… oops. Now that I have learned that they are only in the Book of Mormon and in the Doctrine and Covenants I am extra thankful for modern day revelation. Taking the sacrament every week is one of the most sacred parts of my week, without it we wouldn’t truly be renewed regularly.
What are some of the revelations or messages you have heard from prophets and how have they impacted your life? I challenge you to share some of your experiences with your family.

In February we had the opportunity to listen to the first Friend to Friend Broadcast for kids. We loved all of it. Today we are going to rewatch the prophets message at the end of the program. President Nelsons message was short and sweet, encouraging and motivating, perfect for kids. You can find an adorable printable, from Home Centered Learning, of the Prophets message here. Its perfect for displaying in your children’s rooms.
Start at 36:15 for President Nelsons message but I suggest the entire program if you missed it.
After we rewatch the Prophets message we are going to discuss how we can serve others and direct others to Christ. I will probably get out the book, Have You Filled A Bucket Today, again. Seriously, its one of my favorite books in our home. If you haven’t bought it yet, now is the time.
