Bee’s Birth Story

May 9, 2018 by Side By Side Learning Leave a Comment

My first child’s birth story is by far the longest. I’m not sure if my son was stubborn and didn’t want to come on out or if my body was taking its own sweet time as it discovered how to give birth. Either way, it seemed to take forever, even though it was only a few days. Good thing babies are worth the wait.
Bee's Birth Story

New Parents

I am so excited for this new adventure of our lives. I am 100% sure that Bee is the start of our greatest adventure filled with wonderful times and challenges. It hasn’t been long but I can already tell that everything will be worth the effort.

Jason, my husband, was reading some quotes today and this was one of them.

“You enter the delivery room as a couple and leave as a family.”

I really liked that quote even though I believe that we were a family before. Now we just know one more member of our family and that little boy is just perfect!

Beginning Labor

Getting him here was no walk in the park, let me tell you. I was in labor for 48 hours, only 6 hours in the hospital. The first 42 hours were a huge challenge especially since I didn’t really know what to expect. The contractions were consistent and at the level that they needed to be at to be checked into the hospital. Except once we got to the hospital they would tapper right off. I think Bee got a little nervous and wasn’t ready to come to this cold scary world.

We got sent back home from the hospital twice which was so frustrating because I was at my breaking point and both times were at 3 in the morning… Ugh. Way too early and the worst part is that you can’t fall sleep all night so you are already exhausted and frustrated.

At the Hospital

Once we were actually admitted to the hospital things started looking up again. Bee took 6 hours to come once we arrived but luckily I only had to push for 8 minutes. Bee was born at 3:07 am. 3:00 am must be our special time because keeps popping up. Once he was born I felt so relieved that it was over and that I finally had my baby boy.
New Born Mom Snuggles

Jason got to count his fingers and toes to make sure everything was how it is supposed to be. When he came back to talk to me he said Bee had 6 fingers. There was nothing that I could do so I just accepted it. I would love our son no matter how many fingers he had. Bee really only had 5 on each hand, my husband is just a rascal that thinks he’s so funny. Generally I agree but right after birth, not so much.

Bee was born perfect. He weighed only 5lbs 15 oz but for a little person like me that’s the perfect size for a baby. He can grow out here. He was 49cm long. His legs and feet are quite long compared to the rest of him which generally means he will be quite tall. For our family that could be 6 feet. Time will tell.

His eyes were so squinting for a couple of days. They were also very very dark blue, you could hardly see his pupils.

Challenges

Bee struggled to figured out how to breast feed but eventually we figured it out. We stayed in the hospital for a couple of extra days. I really wanted to go home but now I am glad that we stayed to get some extra help. We got Bee’s tongue tie clipped and that helped him a lot in the long run but he had to learn how to use his tongue again.
Newborn Family

Finally Home

Now that he is home we are starting to get into our own rhythm. No schedule yet but I am starting to understand what he needs more and more. I am absolutely loving being a mom. 3 in the morning is a really tough time though. I can handle 2 and 4 just fine but 3 just seems to be the trickiest time. Hopefully this phase won”t last long. I NEED sleep….

Speaking of sleep I should go and have a nap.

I don't understand what's happening in Ukraine. I' I don't understand what's happening in Ukraine. I've got the basics and a million more questions.

I'm not going to attempt to teach you about what is going on currently. I'm here to tell you that there is time to learn and grow in understanding.

As a homeschool mom, I've had a magnifying lens on what I don't completely understand. I could pretend to know answers, skip the hard topics or I could join the lessons.

Today I choose to join my kids and learn about the Soviet Union. After discussions with a friend I realized that it was a hole in my own education and it was stopping me from understanding current events.

We have a long ways to go but I understand more. I count that as a win.

How are you adding Ukraine into your life this week?

Did you know that Martin Luther King Jr and Anne F Did you know that Martin Luther King Jr and Anne Frank were born in the same year?

These two faced discrimination based on their color and religion. They were treated as second class citizen's and both changed the world with their words. Reading about their similarities and the struggles they faced was eye opening and a great way to discuss how we are not alone in our trials.

"No one could kill the way Martin inspired others. Just as Anne's words will never die."

How do you teach your kids to do what is right even if the law tells them to behave otherwise?
