Here we go! Round 2 of prek for Mr Four. Last year he wanted to start lessons so we did and he did pretty dang good at learning his letters and even better with numbers. He is only four so I really don’t want to push curriculum but I want him to have good and engaging materials for when he wants to be like his big siblings.
Preschool Round Two Curriculum Choices
The Good and the Beautiful: Primer K
Now that we have our letters almost down we are moving forward with mastering our letter sounds leading to starting to read! Primer K is a short program but we are most likely going to stretch it out and take things nice and slow.
The Good and the Beautiful: PreK Activity Pack
Each of my kids have loved the activity pack filled with simple games to learn their letters. Since it’s so beloved we are going to keep on playing the games. I am going to recruit my Prek into teaching my toddler to learn her letters, its a sneaky way to help them both.
Timberdoodle: Farmland Math
Learning through play is so powerful. Farmland Math is amazing at taking a simple story about animals and turning it into a math problem. There is a story book for parents to read but it is easy enough to adapt the stories and create a variety of stories to keep the math problems coming.
Magnatab
Its takes significant fine motor control and lots of practice for kids to be able to handwrite well. I will be giving Tiger lots of paper to practice with but using Magnatabs are a little extra fun and easy to do over and over again.
Family Style Curriculum
The Waldock Way: Passport to Adventures
Passports to Adventure was so much fun last year that we are going to continue with it. Jessica did a wonderful job gathering resources and creating a workbook for us to print for the various ages of our kids. Passport to Adventures is written to go through each individual Magic Tree House book in one week but we have been using them much longer. Our goal this year is a new unit every two weeks.
Our Morning Basket has become foundational to our daily routine. We are going to continue using it and making changes when needed.
